Ripgrep is yet another search command that basically seems to be a stripped down version of the silver searcher written in rust, which attempts to gain speed by limiting the regex capabilities to what can be accomplished using finite automata.

Although its claims of being faster than the silver searcher is a source of controversy (and to be fair I would have never claimed that silver searcher was slow), it does seem to be at least as fast in practice.

And although its API isn't a complete drop in replacement, aliasing ag to rg has allowed the few apps that I use that rely on ag (ag.vim, tag) to function without modification.

I look forward to using it as my daily search and testing the assertions for myself.
